With how consistently the word consistency has been coming to mind lately, I figured it was time to dig into the word with the Word!
The Bible has a lot to say about consistency — it’s found in words like steadfastness, perseverance, faithfulness, endurance, diligence, and abiding.
It’s the consistent use of those words that reminds me God is much more concerned with our faithfulness than acts of grandeur.
📖 Galatians 6:9
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
📖 Luke 16:10
“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much. ”
👆 Consistency brings spiritual growth.
📖 James 1:2-4
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. 4 And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing..”
📖 Romans 5:3-4
“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,”
👆 Consistency builds character.
📖 John 15:4-5
“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.”
👆 Consistency is staying connected to God.
📖 Proverbs 24:16
“for the righteous falls seven times and rises again, but the wicked stumble in times of calamity.”
👆 Consistency never quits.
Recently, consistency in the day-to-day has been challenging for me. And honestly, when I take a real look at life right now, it’s easy to understand why.
My personality tends to overcommit… and then wonder why I’m not seeing the fruit of my labor 😅
So I’m thankful God has brought consistency to the forefront of my thoughts.
For me, this has become a much deeper word study than I expected.
As I approach 5-0 (don’t worry, I still have a few years), I’m realizing sprinting from finish line to finish line isn’t the best strategy for this season of life.
Life feels much more like a marathon now.
And honestly? I like it.
Because life isn’t always easy, and I’ve decided constantly looking for a finish line to rest, refuel, or celebrate is more of an obstacle than motivation. That strategy can actually rob your joy more than fuel it.
📖 Lamentations 3:22-23
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
So yes… I’m really settling into this “consistency era.”
Here’s to running the race faithfully.
Continuing to obey.
Continuing to pursue God passionately.
Even when I’m overwhelmed.
Even when I’m tired.
Even when the boys STILL don’t put their dirty clothes in the laundry basket 😄
Seek first the Kingdom, because GREAT is Thy FAITHFULNESS!
